Terms of Service

Welcome to Tended. By using our service, you agree to these terms. Please read them carefully.

What Tended Is

Tended is a tool to help you:

• Track "we should" commitments (coffee dates, phone calls, meals)
• Get reminders to actually follow through
• Schedule commitments in your calendar

For churches, Tended helps leadership:

• See which members might be isolated and need care
• Track pastoral staff engagement
• Identify families who are new and not yet connected

Your Account

To use Tended, you:

• Must be at least 13 years old
• Provide accurate information (name, email)
• Keep your password secure
• Are responsible for all activity under your account

We can suspend or terminate accounts that:

• Violate these terms
• Are inactive for over 2 years
• Are used for spam or abuse

Using the Service

You can:

• Log as many commitments as you want
• Connect your Google Calendar
• Join a church organization
• Opt in or out of data sharing with your church

You cannot:

• Use Tended for illegal purposes
• Abuse the service (spam, harassment)
• Share your account credentials
• Scrape or copy our data with bots
• Reverse engineer our code

Your content:

• You own all the commitment data you create
• You give us permission to store and display it to you
• If you share data with your church (opt-in), they can see counts only
• Delete your account anytime to remove your data

Google Calendar Integration

When you connect Google Calendar:

• You authorize us to create events on your behalf
• We only create events when you schedule commitments
• We never read your existing calendar events
• You can disconnect anytime (Settings → Calendar)

If Google's API changes or our access is revoked:

• Calendar integration may stop working
• We'll notify you and fall back to email .ics files
• No refunds for features affected by third-party changes

Church Organizations

If you join a church organization:

• Your church admin can see you're a member
• By default, your commitment data is private
• You can opt-in to share commitment counts with leadership
• Church staff roles may require data sharing (ask your admin)

Church administrators agree to:

• Only use member data for pastoral care
• Respect member privacy settings
• Not export or share data outside their organization
• Delete member data if the member leaves

Payments and Billing

For individual users:

• Tended is currently free

For church organizations:

• Pricing is based on your active people count — only people with an "active" status in your roster count toward your tier
• People marked as "inactive" are retained for historical records but are excluded from billing, dashboards, and engagement data
• Billed annually
• Admins can cancel anytime
• No refunds for partial years
• We'll notify you 30 days before renewal

If you don't pay:

• We'll remind you first
• After 30 days, your org account is suspended
• After 90 days, data is deleted
• Individual members can still use free features

Promotional Pricing — Founding Church Program

Tended offers a limited "Founding Church" promotion to early adopters:

• The first 10 individual church subscriptions purchased directly through tended.church qualify for Founding Church pricing
• Founding churches receive a 50% discount on the standard tier price for the lifetime of their subscription
• This promotion does not apply to district, denominational, or enterprise agreements, which are quoted separately
• The discount is non-transferable — it stays with the original subscribing church, not with a specific pastor or administrator
• If a founding church changes tiers due to growth in active people, the 50% discount applies to the new tier
• Tended reserves the right to end the Founding Church program once 10 qualifying subscriptions have been activated

Service Availability

We try to keep Tended running 24/7, but:

• We can't guarantee 100% uptime
• Maintenance happens (we'll warn you when possible)
• Third-party failures (Google, Railway, Twilio) may affect service
• No refunds for temporary outages

SMS Messaging

If you choose to enable SMS reminders:

• You consent to receive automated text messages from Tended at the number you provide
• Messages will include commitment reminders and follow-up prompts
• Message frequency depends on how many open commitments you have
• Message and data rates may apply
• To stop receiving messages at any time, reply STOP to any message or disable SMS in Settings → Notifications
• Reply HELP to any message for assistance or contact [email protected]
• Opting out of SMS does not affect your account or email reminders
• You represent that you are the account holder or have permission to use the number provided
• We are not responsible for delayed or undelivered messages due to carrier issues

Limitation of Liability

Tended is provided "as is":

• We're not responsible if commitments don't sync to your calendar
• We're not liable for missed commitments or forgotten follow-ups
• We're not responsible for church leadership decisions based on data
• Maximum liability: Amount you paid us in the last 12 months

In plain English:

• Tended is a tool to help you, not a guarantee
• You're still responsible for your relationships
• We'll do our best, but things can break

Intellectual Property

We own:

• The Tended name, logo, and branding
• The code and design of the application
• All features and functionality

You can't:

• Copy our design or code
• Use our name or logo without permission
• Create a competing product using our code

Changes to These Terms

• We can update these terms anytime
• We'll email you about significant changes
• Continued use means you accept the new terms
• If you don't agree, delete your account

Termination

You can leave anytime:

• Delete your account in Settings
• Data is removed within 30 days
• Disconnect Google Calendar access

We can terminate accounts that:

• Violate these terms
• Abuse the service
• Are inactive for 2+ years (with notice)

Dispute Resolution

If there's a problem:

1. Email us first: [email protected]
2. We'll work with you to resolve it
3. If we can't resolve it, you agree to arbitration (not court)
4. Arbitration location: Oregon, USA
5. Governing law: Oregon state law

Miscellaneous

• These terms are the complete agreement
• If one part is unenforceable, the rest still applies
• We can't transfer your account without your permission
• No waiver of rights unless in writing

Beta Testing

While Tended is in beta:

• Features may change without notice
• Data loss is unlikely but possible
• Pricing may change (we'll grandfather early users)
• Your feedback helps us improve
